On 1st January 2016 Microsoft Windows will change how it enforces Authenticode code signing as explained fully in the article “Windows Enforcement of Authenticode Code Signing and Timestamping“.
We have been code signing all of the component DLLs in ScriptX since long before it became a requirement/recommendation as well as the .cab/.msi file wrapping the installation We will be releasing ScriptX 7.7 before the end of 2015. This release will be signed and time stamped with an SHA-1 certificate and so will be valid until at least 2020.
The 12th of January 2016 also marks the effective end of the road on Windows 7 for all versions of Internet Explorer up to IE 11. Microsoft has been fighting the cruft in its browser code base with the release of Edge with Windows 10 but continues to maintain IE 11 for those users with requirements for technology such as add-ons implemented in binary code like ScriptX. ScriptX 6/7 has supported, and continues to support, every version of Internet Explorer from 5.5. Due to continuing changes in the browser (especially with IE 7 and IE 8) we are also carrying a lot of code simply for the purposes of backwards compatibility.
ScriptX 7.7 will be the last version of ScriptX to support older versions of the browser. ScriptX 8 will support IE 11 and later only. We will continue to make 7.7.x available to customers and will maintain 7.7 with any required bug-fixes for the foreseeable future.
