In October I talked about v2 of our helper libraries for helping to add control of printing to sites/apps developed with ASP.NET and that they referenced v8 of ScriptX. Back then it was still in beta.
ScriptX 8 is now released to complete the puzzle. ScriptX 8 is designed for and requires Internet Explorer 11. We have removed support for older browsers and removed support for Windows XP and Windows 2000. For these environments ScriptX 7 continues to be available and continues to be supported.
It doesn’t matter whether you are using ScriptX 7.7 or ScriptX 8, licensees are entitled to our first class levels of support.
Developers
If all your site visitors are using Internet Explorer 11, deploy ScriptX 8 to your end users, otherwise deploy ScriptX 7.7.
In other words, please note that ScriptX 7.7 continues to support Internet Explorer 11. If you are a business that is still in transition with a mix of Internet Explorer versions then deploy ScriptX 7.7.
End Users
If you are using Internet Explorer 11, install ScriptX 8 otherwise install ScriptX 7.7
Why are we doing this?
As of January 2016 the supported versions of Windows are Windows Vista and later and the supported versions of Internet Explorer are IE 9 and later (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle?forceorigin=esmc#gp/Microsoft-Internet-Explorer).
Beginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical supports and security updates. Internet Explorer 11 is the last version of Internet Explorer, and will continue to receive security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support).
This means customers should take action. Post January 12, 2016, Microsoft no longer provide security updates or technical support for older versions of Internet Explorer. Security updates patch vulnerabilities that may be exploited by malware, helping to keep users and their data safer. Regular security updates help protect computers from malicious attacks, so upgrading and staying current is important.
From January 2017, one year after Microsoft’s cut-off, MeadCo will:
- Continue active development of ScriptX and provide technical support, bug fixes and security updates for Internet Explorer 11 with ScriptX 8
- Continue to provide technical support, bug fixes and security updates to ScriptX 7.7 for all versions of Internet Explorer
- Cease active development of ScriptX for Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

What is new in this release
We have introduced separation of installers for Enhanced PDF Printing. When installing ScriptX with smsx.cab or ScriptX.msi the Enhanced PDF Printing bits are no longer installed. This dramatically reduces the size of the ‘main’ ScriptX installers. Installing the Enhanced PDF Printing bits is simple and on demand. Please read our article for details.
Another new feature is the ability to control the smallest scale factor that will be used when scaling content to fit. This is useful in scenarios where SVG/Canvasses are used, for example for graphing, on large monitors with high pixel counts; when it comes to print a small scale factor is required to make the content fit but the default smallest factor is 30%. With ScriptX 8 a smaller scale factor can be used and the print will fit.
